A teenage boy, who died just weeks after raising thousands of pounds for the children's cancer unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital, has been posthumously awarded for his fund raising.

Team Ev was set up by the friends and family of Evan Rees-Humphreys who was diagnosed with liver cancer at just eight years old.

The team received the award for best volunteer fundraiser in a glittering night at The Bedford Lodge in Newmarket.

Emily Willdigg, community fundraiser at Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust said: “Ev was determined to do all he could to raise money to help future children in his position.

“He would have been immensely proud of this achievement. We are so very grateful to Ev, his family and friends for their wonderful support.

“We are absolutely delighted for Team Ev on winning this award.

“Their dedication and commitment to raising funds for the children’s cancer ward has been amazing.”

Ev was one of only 15 people in the UK to be diagnosed with a rare cancerous tumour in his liver.

Following treatment at Addenbrooke’s and four years in remission, his cancer sadly returned in 2015.

Ev faced gruelling rounds of aggressive chemotherapy and radiotherapy but he decided he did not want cancer to take over his life and so, with the support of friends and family Team Ev was created, raising more than £18,400 for the children’s cancer ward at Addenbrooke’s.

Throughout 2015 Team Ev invited their local community to take part in a series of events including a wear a wig day at his school, a charity head shave and an ice cream for breakfast day.

A cheque was presented to the ward in April 2016 to be improve the experience for patients on the ward, with some of it going towards an interactive play floor.

Sadly, just weeks later on May 13, Ev lost his fight with cancer at the age of 13.
