Disposal experts headed to March after a suspected World War 2 bomb was unearthed during works on a house.

Neighbours were asked to leave whilst police and bomb disposal experts dealt with it.

The house, in the Avenue, has been undergoing renovation works.

One neighbour said: “Just had to evacuate our house as neighbours have dug up WW2 bomb!!!”.

The house is near Aria Court, a 92-bedroom care home..

The neighbour said residents of Aria Court remained but another of his neighbours was asked to leave.

“I am told we may not be able to return for some hours,” he said.

He believes four or five homes evacuated.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers are in The Avenue, March after a WW2 grenade was found.

“A cordon has been put in place as a precaution and some properties have been evacuated while we await attendance from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit.”

The device was dealt with safely and residents returned to their home by 6pm.
