The Bishop Laney Sixth Form, part of Ely College and Soham Village College, showed what it has to offer to school leavers and their parents on November 1.

Among those in attendance were the National Citizens Service, business mentoring firm Form Future and coaches from Norwich City FC, who were promoting the club’s partnership with the sixth form.

Richard Spencer, principal of Ely College, said: “Bishop Laney Sixth Form provides a vibrant Post-16 establishment, within a smaller and dedicated environment where the needs of all our students can be met. We have the desire to offer more than education, ensuring students are prepared for professional life, such as through our business mentoring programme.

“It was great to meet with prospective students and their families last night to discuss how Bishop Laney Sixth Form can become part of their future.

“Our collaborative way of working is innovative and allows us to share resources and provide the best offer for our students. We are immensely proud of what Bishop Laney can and will offer the students and their families in East Cambridgeshire.”

Adam Steels, who leads Bishop Laney, said “We are really excited to be introducing the option of A Levels to our students. In 2016 we achieved the coveted 100 per cent pass rate for vocational courses and over 66 per cent of results were awarded at Distinction or Distinction* level.

“Additionally, our Pledges+ scheme encourages students to take part in extra-curricular activities to broaden their skills, try out new activities and to simply enjoy themselves, is in action at Bishop Laney Sixth Form.”

The sixth form officially opened in September and is named after the Bishop who left his inheritance to residents of Ely and Soham in the 17th century.

It is based predominantly in Ely but also offers classes at Soham.
