AN old choristers reunion was held at Ely Cathedral to celebrate the birthday of Dr Arthur Wills.
Dr Wills was a former director of music for the choristers.
A hexagonal birthday cake showing Dr Wills's many and varied interests was made for the occasion by Alan Barrett, who was a chorister at Ely during the last war. Former head chorister, Marcus Booth, presented Arthur with a crate of fine wines on behalf of the society and last year's head chorister, Charlie Green, handed Mrs Wills a bouquet and box of chocolates.
The society's chairman, Keith Dolby, gave the precentor, Canon David Pritchard, a cheque for £350 for the cathedral's music appeal.
Earlier, at evensong, the Charles Bush Memorial Award was presented to the new head chorister Ben German by Penny Whittingham, daughter of former chorister and society member, Charles Bush.
At the annual meeting, the society unanimously agreed to invite members of the newly-formed girls' choir to join them when they left.
