TEENAGER Jack Butler ran out of a pub and jumped on his motorbike to ride home after his partner, who suffers from a heart condition, rang his mobile saying she felt unwell.

But Butler, 18, was pulled up by police who saw smoke coming from the bike and arrested him for drink-driving.

On Tuesday, Butler, of Saffron Close, Littleport appeared before Ely Magistrates where he admitted driving with excess alcohol.

The court heard that a breath test revealed 40 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Mitigating, Sandeep Kainth, told the court that Butler lives with his partner who is being treated at Papworth Hospital for a heart complaint.

She had phoned him saying she felt unwell and he picked up his motorbike where normally he would have walked the 30 minutes to his home.

Butler was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £70 and ordered to pay £55 costs.
