A kind-hearted nine-year-old rallied his schoolfriends to organise a non-uniform day to raise cash for the search of missing youngster Madeleine McCann.

Bradley, a pupil at Mepal and Witcham Primary School, came up with the idea after hearing how the four-year-old had gone missing while on holiday with her family in Portugal.

He even wrote a letter to the youngster's parents informing them about the non-uniform day, with a note at the bottom from the head teacher.

The school's 85 pupils took part in the event, raising £85 for the fund set up by Madeleine's uncle, John McCann.

School secretary, Janet Hopwood said: "The whole school has been saddened by the disappearance and it was lovely the way that Bradley has been so enthusiastic about the whole cause.

"He counted up all the money, bagged it and put up posters around the school informing everyone how much he has raised. Bradley has totally taken control of the whole situation. It was heartwarming to witness.
