BEST friends Jodi Page and Abbi Bowen, from Ely, were named top achievers taking centre stage at an army cadet open evening.

The youngsters, both 14, were rewarded for their valuable service as members of the Cambridgeshire Army Cadet Force first aid team.

The team is the highest achieving in the UK, and the girls received a certificate of thanks from the Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Hugh Duberly.

The certificates were presented by cadet leader Lieutenant Matt Murfitt during the open evening.

Jodi also received a St John Ambulance Young First Aider of the Year certificate in recognition of her quick actions to help a woman injured in a car crash.

She came across the road accident in Leicestershire and cared for the victim until paramedics arrived.
