BBC newsreader and Crimewatch presenter Matthew Amroliwala was the guest at the King’s Ely Junior prize giving service at Ely Cathedral.
Mr Amroliwala was a pupil at King’s Ely from 1976 until 1981.
Speaking to the pupils, their families and teachers before presenting the awards to the prize-winners, Matthew took the opportunity to encourage the young people to be determined and aim high.
Richard Whymark, head of King’s Ely Junior, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Matthew back to King’s Ely and his speech certainly fuelled the children’s aspirations for the future.
“Matthew’s encouragement to develop their natural talents and look for opportunities in life that allowed them to work for the benefit of others was inspirational.”
