Burglars attempted to smash their way into a jeweller in Ely.

The incident happened at Italian Jewellery, in High Street Passage, at about 4.40am on Wednesday, April 15.

It involved three masked people, two of whom used a form of battering ram in an attempt to break into the shop.

Their attempts were unsuccessful and they made off in the direction of Ely Cathedral.

PC Andy Harding said: “Due to excellent security at the shop, entry was not gained, the alarm sounded and the assailants fled on foot empty handed.
