BANNED driver Haydn Robins called the police after driving his car into a ditch at Witchford.
He told police he had been drinking, and gave them details about the accident, Ely magistrates were told on Thursday.
Robins, 32, of Saffron Piece, Sutton, admitted driving a Vauxhall Vectra on the A142 at Witchford on September 29.
"After the accident, he got a lift with a taxi driver, and then telephoned the police," said prosecutor Andrew Williams. "He said he knew he should not have been driving, and had been stupid."
Robins was banned from driving for three years back in February 2005, for offences of drink-driving and driving when disqualified.
Solicitor Nick Barnes said Robins possibly suffered from mental health problems. He also pointed out that Robins' driving ban would have ended by the time of the accident, if he had taken up the option of a rehabilitation course that reduces a driving ban by 25 per cent.
