ALL-GIRL marching band The Littleport Lancettes is to fold this summer. The decision came after leaders Deb Duffield and Trish Evans decided to step down.

An appeal for support failed to bring any offers of help from parents and the committee has been forced to disband the troupe.

But the 20 girls, aged between six and 13, will be performing throughout the summer at Chatteris Carnival, Manea Gala, Littleport Community Primary School fete and other events throughout the district.

Deb said: "It is sad but we want to make this a year to remember for the girls.

"The Lancettes have been handed down from parent to parent for maybe 12 years or longer but now there is no-one that can take over. I fully understand that as it is an extremely big commitment. There is not a day goes by when you are not involved in one way or another.

"We have been in touch with majorettes at Soham and Downham Market and they have agreed to take any of the girls who want to carry on.
