FRAUDSTER Wayne Farnell got a job with a maintenance company by failing to declare he was a banned driver.

When he was taken on by BMW Maintenance, at Witchford, he told the firm he had a clean and full licence.

But the truth came out when police found Farnell in a company vehicle parked at the Alderforth Farm access area, at Witchford.

Inquiries were made with the police national computer, and it came to light that he was banned back in 2003, until he took an extended re-test, which he had never completed.

After his arrest he was searched, and a packet of amphetamine was discovered in his underpants.

Farnell, 35, of Meadow Way, Mepal, was interviewed by the property maintenance company on March 9 this year, and 10 days later was issued with a vehicle he was allowed to retain, said prosecutor Matthew Bradbury.

"He drove between 500 and 800 miles a week all over the eastern region," he said. "He breached the trust shown in him."

Farnell was banned from the road in November 2003 for drink-driving and dangerous driving, and also received a jail sentence.

Solicitor Christina Metcalfe said she had made it clear to Farnell that he must take a test before driving alone.

Farnell admitted fraud, possessing a Class B drug, and driving when disqualified and without insurance.

He was given an 18-month supervision order that included the Think First programme. Six points were added to his driving licence and he must pay £100 costs.
