WONDERFUL displays of blooms, blossoms and bouquets made this year’s Ely in Bloom competition a roaring success.

An awards ceremony held at the City of Ely Council on Tuesday evening saw more than 40 people honoured for their efforts creating some eye-catching garden displays, hanging baskets and flower beds.

Overall winner this year was the sheltered housing scheme at Fairfax Court, though there were prizes and commendations for plenty of other entrants.

Chairman of the Ely in Bloom committee, Cllr Shirley Overall said: “It was an outstanding this year, the work that people put in to create these displays, even in their own gardens, is just superb.

“We included more categories again this year and the standard continues to be very high, it has been a great success and we are already turning our attentions to next year’s event.”
