Four blazes have been tackled by fire crew in the last two days, two of which were started by arsonists.

One blaze took place today at 7.17am today (Monday 3) when a crew from Newmarket dealt with a fire in the open in East Fen Road, Isleham.

A fire involving a tree and some hotspots in hedgerow were extinguished using hose reels which took about an hour to get under control.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

Another Isleham fire was started by arsonists on Sunday evening at about 7.30pm.

Crews from Soham, Newmarket and Mildenhall were called to a field fire in East Fen when a large area of grassland was “well alight”.

The fire was spreading rapidly due to the wind conditions.

A second field was also affected and crews used four hose reels and beaters to extinguish the fire.

They took about two and a half hours to fully extinguish the blaze.

A second deliberate blaze led to a fire crew call-out in Soham on Sunday afternoon when there was a grass field fire in Mill Corner at about 5pm.

Crews used a hose reel to extinguish it which took about half an hour.

On Sunday at 10.49am a crew from Burwell was called to a fire in the open in Reach Road.

Rubbish and trees were well alight and it took about an hour to being the fire under control.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
