A GROUP from the Cambridgeshire County Council archaeological field unit has been working on a site in Brook Street. The site next door to the Carpenters Arms pub is to be developed as houses and flats after the field unit has completed its investigation.
A GROUP from the Cambridgeshire County Council archaeological field unit has been working on a site in Brook Street. The site next door to the Carpenters Arms pub is to be developed as houses and flats after the field unit has completed its investigation. Glenn Bailey, of the field unit, said that they had discovered evidence of a medieval quarry and possibly a large building. The field, a farmyard in the '50s and early '60s, has also produced pieces of pottery spanning the period from medieval to modern times, as well as teeth.
Mr Bailey said that the site could well have been in use from the 12th through to the 19th century. The Archaeological Field Unit will produce a report on the site at a later date.
