Archaeologists working in an East Cambridgeshire village have uncovered 21 skeletons dating back to Anglo-Saxon times.
A host of other items, including gold and copper jewellery, pottery and weapons have also been unearthed during the dig, taking place in Exning, near Burwell.
The team who uncovered the skeletons, from Archaeological Solutions, were called in by developers Persimmon Homes, which hopes to build houses on the site.
The skeletons are believed to date from about 650AD and will be sent away from examination to better determine their age.
The graves were uncovered little more than a foot from the surface of land which is regularly ploughed for agriculture and remain in excellent condition.
Archaeological Solutions said it was exploring the possibility that the graves were of high status and possibly linked to Anglo Saxon monarch, King Anna, who is said to have links to the village.
