Apprentice mechanic Joe Steggles is well on the way to earning his overalls after scooping Cambridge Regional College’s Learner of the Year award.
Joe, 18, from Witchford, started working on cars as a hobby in his spare time before deciding to take on an apprenticeship with Geoff Glover, of Chettisham, in 2012.
After sailing through his Level 1 award last year, Joe stepped up to Level 2 at the start of the academic year and has impressed tutors at college so much that they decided to put him forward for the course’s top award.
The former Witchford Village College student, who drives a Vauxhall Corsa, received a certificate for his efforts and gets to keep the course trophy for a year.
He is due to move on to Level 3, the final part of his apprenticeship, later this year.
He said: “I managed to finish all the work at Level 2 first and stuck with it so I was really pleased with the award.
“I’ve really enjoyed it here because every day is different, you never know what is going to happen.”
