BUSINESSMAN John Borland, who is fighting a council order to repair his city centre shop, has had his appeal against enforcement action delayed until June.

Ely Magistrates decided on Tuesday to adjourn the case until June 14 when half a day has been set aside for the hearing.

Mr Borland is fighting to overturn an enforcement order on the former fruit and vegetable shop in Market Street which was issued by East Cambridgeshire District Council.

Council enforcement officers want Mr Borland to carry out urgent repairs to the old building which stands in Ely's Conservation Area.

But Mr Borland had lodged a planning application with the council asking for permission to demolish the shop and rebuild it along with the flat above.

The application is expected to go before the council's planning committee for a decision on April 5.
