Animals of all shapes and sizes are invited to Ely Cathedral’s pet blessing service this month

The countdown to Ely Cathedral’s annual pet service and blessing is on.
Pet owners were left disappointed after the cathedral and Wood Green animal charity announced earlier this year that their 2015 service, scheduled to take place in May, had been axed.
The service, which has been held for 28 years, attracts everything from dogs to alpacas but bosses at Wood Green decided they wanted to start inviting just dogs to the service “to avoid unnecessary stress caused by multiple species occupying the same space”.
The cathedral insisted the service needed to be open to all types of pets and, as a result, the event was axed.
However, in July the cathedral announced it was launching its own service to raise money for Wood Green, the Donkey Sanctuary, the K9 Project and Guide Dogs for the Blind. The service is on Sunday, September 20 and starts at 2pm. It is open to all pets.
