A cheque for £2,700 was presented to Alzheimer’s Research UK at the weekend, having been raised by a Wicken family who completed a 22-mile sponsored walk for the charity.

Bob Tyler, a 71-year-old retired butcher, was inspired to organise the fundraiser because of his wife, Christine, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s 13 years ago at the age of 57.

Bob took part in the walk along with his daughters Sarah Tietz and Becky Ingram and grandchildren Harry, James and Elliott.

The family was joined by friends Suzie Dew, Tamara Graham, Zoe Thistlethwaite, Sally Jefferson, Paula Wylie, Ali Wells and her daughter Abigail and Ali Chaplin and her daughter Emily.

Jessica Sayer, regional fundraising officer for Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We are so grateful to Bob and his family and friends for raising such an incredible amount for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

“I am so pleased they had good weather for the walk and well done to all the young ones for walking so far.”
