EAST Cambridgeshire recyclers are hoping aluminium cans could be turned into fruit trees locally and in Africa.

Under the Trees for Cans scheme launched by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough waste officers, a tree will be planted for every tonne of aluminium waste recycled.

Alupro has been working with local authorities to increase the amount of aluminium packaging that is recycled in the UK, whilst supporting international charity Tree Aid to rebuild woodlands in Africa and help tackle the problems of poverty and malnutrition.

The scheme means people in East Cambridgeshire can use their drink cans to help the people of Malawi.
