The Ely Allotment Association has issued a warning to members after a number of sheds were broken into in the city.

Overnight on May 27, allotments holders in New Barns Road reported that sheds had been entered, although no items were reported missing.

A spokesman for the association said that would-be thieves were “very likely” to return to the site, and potentially others in Ely.

The spokesman said: “Although nothing seems to have been taken, it is very likely that they will return with a van and remove any items they have found possible buyers for. It is very possible that other sites in the area will be targeted.

“Please do not leave anything valuable in a shed. Also we recommend that sheds are always left unlocked because thieves will force the door open and do damage that may cost more to repair than the value of the items inside.”
