SOHAM Village College's head of history took an interactive approach to teaching his subject on Friday.

Jonathan Wale spent the day in a full suit of armour to raise money for Liam's Fund.

The Ely Standard had no problem catching up with Mr Wale in class 7B ... because he was forced by the heavy metal to walk at a snail's pace and clunked all the way down the hall.

Welsh company Knights Gone By donated the replica medieval knight outfit for free after Mr Wale told them Liam's story.

"It was tough," said Mr Wale of his armoured teaching day. "The armour weighs about 35 kilos on the shoulders, which is the equivalent of carrying round a Year Seven pupil."

The armour is usually rented out by Knights Gone By for battle re-enactments, and Mr Wale said they were delighted by such an unusual request.

He has managed to raise £600 so far and is expecting his total to top the £1,000 mark once all donations from friends and family are counted.
