All in the name of Comic Relief

# MOST of us make a hasty escape from work at the earliest opportunity, but two members of staff at First Choice in Ely staged a sleepover at the store for Comic Relief.

Martin Kindred and Amie Russell were sponsored to stay behind as the High Street store closed on Thursday night, and raised just under £240 for the appeal.

"I don't think they minded being there, really, because it was all for a good cause," said sales assistant Louise Mason, pictured.

"They had a takeaway delivered and watched DVDs on Martin's laptop."

She said some donations were posted through the store's letterbox while the pair carried out the challenge.

# THREE pupils at Littleport Primary School took a vow of silence to raise more than £175 for comic relief.

Katie, Victoria and Amy, all 10, hit upon the idea themselves to keep quiet for the day, and were joined by friends.

Year five teacher Lindsay Frost said: "They brought notebooks with them so they could write things down and they had a card saying 'please may I be excused' when they needed the loo - it was all very well organised."

# RED Nose day would not be complete without somebody taking a bath in beans, and this year, Rosey Connolly gamely stuck it out for more than two hours.

The 52-year-old, pictured, bathed in 384 tins of beans at the entrance of Ely Tesco in Angel Drove, prompting what she described as "a mixed reaction" from shoppers.

"One person said 'you're ready for your psychological analysis now'," she said.

"Most people thought I was crackers but liked the fact that I was doing it for a good cause."

Mrs Connolly has raised more than £800 for Comic Relief, but said she is not sure she would do it again.

"Once was enough - it was very, very cold," she said.

The beans were donated by Tesco, where Mrs Connolly works.
