For the first time since 1964 and with 73 miles between them, Aldeburgh Festival is coming to Ely – and 100 East Cambridgeshire residents have the chance to experience classical music for free.

As part of the festival, which this year celebrates Britten and American history, there will be a performance from Italian Baroque composer Orazio Benevolo’s Mass at 7.30pm on Wednesday June 13.

Written for eight separate choirs, each has its own conductor and instrumental ensemble. To reserve a free ticket for the concert, as long as you live in the postcodes CB6, CB7, IP28, IP29 or IP31, visit www.snapemaltings.co.uk or call the box office on 01728 687110.

For people outside these postcodes, tickets range from £5 to £25.

Roger Wright, chief executive of Snape Maltings, said: “Benevolo’s Mass doesn’t require specialist knowledge to enjoy it and the Aldeburgh Festival hopes the free ticket offer will attract residents of East Cambridgeshire and West Suffolk who wouldn’t normally attend classical music events.”

Aldeburgh Festival 2018, which also reflects 1948 - the period in post-war British history when the festival began - runs from June 8 to 24.
