A VERDICT of death by natural causes was given at the inquest of a Burwell man who had liver disease caused by alcoholism.

David Roger Prowse of, 59, of Garden Court, Burwell, died in his home on November 14 last year.

Parts of a report made by Mr Prowse's doctor, Andrew Wills, of the Burwell Surgery, were read out by coroner William Morris at the inquest, at Ely Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The report stated that in 2005 Mr Prowse was in good health, other than being asthmatic, but he drank heavily when he had access to money.

The court heard how Mr Prowse's drinking became much worse the following year and a post mortem report confirmed that he suffered from alcoholic ketoacidosis, which is a form of liver disease.
