The family of Joan Matthews who died in a collision on the A10 near Ely yesterday was described today by her family as “loved by so many”.

The heartfelt tribute was released by Cambridgeshire Police on behalf of her family.

Mrs Matthews, 75, died yesterday afternoon after the car she was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A10 at Little Thetford.

The mother, mother-in-law, sister and grandmother of Chestnut Way, Mepal, died when her silver Honda Jazz collided with an articulated lorry at around 1.45pm on Thursday, September 27.

Her family said: “We are absolutely devastated at the loss of a wonderful mother, mother in law, sister and grandmother

“Loved by so many, she will be dearly missed. We would kindly ask that we can mourn this tragic loss in private.”

At the time of the incident, a spokesman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “The A10, Ely Road has been closed following a fatal collision between a car and a lorry at 1.45pm.

“A woman who was driving the car has died. There are no other reported injuries. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.”
