THE thought of homework is normally enough to fill a youngster with dread, but children at Mepal and Witcham primary went above and beyond the call of duty for a recent project.

Teachers at the school were amazed at the results after year three and four pupils in Joy Walker's class were set the task of building a model of the Iron Man.

The children have been studying Ted Hughes' book of the same name and they were asked to build their model entirely from recycled materials.

"We are so proud of them," said head teacher Jane Green.

"They have put so much effort in, and the nice thing about it is that a lot of them have worked with their parents.
