A-LEVEL RESULTS DAY 2017: Record number of students bag A* grades at King’s Ely

Sixth form students at King’s Ely are celebrating this morning after receiving their A-Level results.

36 per cent of all grades achieved this year were A* or A, 66 per cent were graded A* to B, 84 per cent were graded A* to C and 98 per cent of all students achieved A* to E. The number of students who achieved A* grades also increased to 15 per cent this year.

Eleven students achieved all A or A* grades. Matthew Buckingham, Asia Choudhry and Izzy Oughton all achieved three A grades. Ginny Lam achieved two A* grades, Lucy Pearce achieved an A* grade and two A grades, Jamie Lowery achieved an A* grade and two A grades and Ethel Wang achieved two A* grades and an A grade. Ming Hu was also among the top performers, achieving an A* grade, two A grades and an A* grade in his Extended Project Qualification.

Yinni Hu and Hattie Pinto were both thrilled after achieving the grades they needed to study at Cambridge and Oxford Universities. Yinni achieved two A* grades and an A grade to secure her place at Somerville College, Oxford, to read Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Hattie achieved three A* grades and an A grade to secure her place at Jesus College, Cambridge, to read Philosophy.

Principal of King’s Ely, Sue Freestone, said: “It is great to see a record number of students achieving A* grades, especially in a year of such uncertainty.
