RESIDENTS of Ely and the surrounding villages were among more than 60 dedicated blood donors to be honoured by the National Blood Service recently.
The charity held its awards ceremony at Homerton College, Cambridge, to honour blood donors from across the country who have donated blood on at least 75 occasions. Seven of the 63 lifesavers were commended for reaching the milestone of 100 blood donations.
Each blood donation can potentially save the lives of up to three people, so every donor at the ceremony could lay claim to saving more than 225 lives. A crystal plate was presented to each of the donors who have given 75 donations and a crystal decanter was given to those who have made 100 donations.
