A £37.5 million education and leisure complex is being built in Littleport.
The project, which is being run by Cambridgeshire County Council, will include an early year’s school, a primary school, a three-storey secondary school, a special needs school and a community leisure facility.
The two-storey sports centre will comprise a sports hall, a fitness suite, a multi-use hall, changing facilities, and a social bar area, and will be available for use by the whole community.
The four form entry secondary school, Littleport Academy, will initially cater for 600 pupils aged 11 to 16, with the potential to accommodate 750 pupils in the future.
The special educational needs school on the same site will cater for 110 pupils between the ages of two and 19 and include a hydrotherapy pool for swimming therapy programmes.
Both schools will open in time for the start of the academic year in 2017 and the early year’s school will cater for 18 young children.
The site will also include the construction of the new, one form entry primary school which is expected to be completed by 2020, and an extension to Littleport Academy.

The complex is being built by construction and infrastructure company Morgan Sindall, who will also deliver external landscaping - including improvements to existing playing fields and new hard and soft play areas.
Bob Ensch, area director of Morgan Sindall, said: “Cambridgeshire has experienced significant economic growth in recent years resulting in high demand for educational facilities.
“It’s therefore important that substantial, community-focused projects like this one are being delivered at this time.
“Designing and constructing quality buildings which provide a positive learning environment and enhance children and young people’s educational experience requires detailed and thoughtful planning.
“Once complete, the Littleport complex will not only be a comprehensive educational centre for children of all ages and abilities, but an inclusive community hub with great leisure facilities.”
