RSPCA’s Block Fen Animal Centre seeks home for rescue cat

Martha has had a difficult start, but her loving personality still shines through.

Three-year-old Martha is one of many cats at the RSPCA’s Block Fen Animal Centre seeking a loving forever home.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “Martha is a loving and gentle girl who is looking for a quiet home where she can come out of her shell.

“She can be a little cautious when meeting new people and may need a bit of time to settle into any new home. But once she feels comfortable, her loving personality really begins to shine.

“Martha had previously lived in a household where cat flu was present. Due to this, she could be the only cat in the home. Martha could live with sensible secondary school-aged children depending on the introductions made at the centre.”

Anyone who can offer Martha the right home can complete the RSPCA’s online application form.

RSPCA centres are under mounting pressure as new figures show a 67 per cent rise in multi-cat rescues in one year.

Figures released for the RSPCA’s Cruelty Hurts, Love Rescues campaign show it dealt with 1,752 mass-cat incidents last year, involving 10 or more cats in one property—almost five a day.

That was a 67 per cent rise from 1,045 in 2024 and a 186 per cent increase from the 613 recorded in 2021.

The charity said the incidents are placing unprecedented pressure on its resources in England and Wales.

About 20,000 cats entered RSPCA care in 2025, and the charity fears that figure will be exceeded this year.

Cat breeding peaks between May and September, bringing centres and branches unwanted kittens and pregnant mothers and putting further pressure on the charity’s limited space.

Martha needs access to the outdoors.

Martha could live with secondary school-aged children.

Martha would prefer to be the only pet in the home.

Martha is quiet but full of love.

The same centre has previously appealed for a home for a lurcher who spent 1,000 days in RSPCA care.
