A classic steam train will be passing through Cambridgeshire next month in exciting news for trainspotters.
The Duke of Gloucester will be pulling the Steam Dreams service from Haywards Heath to Cambridge on Saturday, June 13.
Departing at 8.30am, the locomotive will be passing through the following Hertfordshire stations:
- Foxton - 12.45pm
- Shepreth - 12.53pm
- Cambridge - 12.59pm
- Cambridge North - 1.08pm
- Waterbeach - 1.11pm
- Ely - 1.25pm
The Duke of Gloucester was built in 1954, but design and construction errors meant it failed to achieve its expected performance and it was withdrawn after only eight years in service.
It lay in a scrapyard for more than a decade until the Duke of Gloucester Steam Locomotive Trust rescued it in 1974.
A 13-year restoration project followed and it returned to rails again. It would be withdrawn again in 2012 to undergo an extensive overhaul and would not be back pulling services again until 2024.
