A Cambridgeshire man who went on a violent rampage threatening people with a knife has been jailed.
Liam Ellis, 25, of Moor Drove, Histon, was jailed for three years at Huntingdon Crown Court on May 19 after pleading guilty to affray, two counts of possession of a bladed article, theft of a bike, and possession of cannabis.
His crimes took place on February 20 in Cambridge, starting at 10.24pm when council CCTV operators spotted him behaving aggressively in the city centre.
Det Con Samuel Andrews said: "Ellis’ behaviour that night was extremely concerning and frightening for those who encountered him.
"He randomly targeted members of the public, using a knife to intimidate and threaten, and showed a complete disregard for the safety of others."
Ellis, riding an electric bike on Sidney Street, blocked a van before punching and folding its wing mirror.
He was then seen screaming in the faces of members of the public and acting in a threatening manner.
Minutes later he rode to King Street, fell off his bike, and approached a group outside a pub.
He pulled up his hood, grabbed one man, and held a knife to his neck, while pointing the blade at others nearby.
At around 10.30pm he made two stabbing motions at a woman and tried to stab the side of a nearby vehicle.
Earlier CCTV footage showed Ellis riding through the area already in possession of a knife.
Further investigation linked him to other offences, including carrying a multi-tool on June 27 last year and stealing a bike from Occupation Road on June 14.
Det Con Andrews said: "Thanks to the vigilance of CCTV operators, he was quickly identified and brought to justice."
