A comedian who swapped a successful stand-up career in Las Vegas to live out his dream on a narrowboat is coming to Ely.

As seen on Channel 4's Narrow Escapes, Joel Sanders is bringing his one-man comedy show Angry Boater to The Maltings on Thursday October 2.

Audiences can expect an evening of "smart, sharp and totally original" stand up, storytelling and "brutally honest reflections of letting go of everything you know."

There'll be tales of Joel's awkward encounter with an A-list celebrity in a boatyard and the time he found a body in a lock on the River Soar.

Joel had planned on becoming the first Brit to play in all 50 US States.

He managed to travel to 40, performing at a range of locations including the south's redneck bars as well as casinos and theatres in more traditional destinations.

Channel 4 followed Joel's adventures as he travelled on his narrowboat between shows in London and the Midlands.

He returned for his biggest voyage yet in series two - pushing his narrowboat to its limits during a voyage out to sea.

He said: "As anyone who’s seen it over the past 12 years will tell you, there are no other shows like Angry Boater.

"Expect a hugely entertaining night of comedy about the joys, perils and madness of swapping suburban comforts for a life on the UK’s waterways."

The Ely show will run from 7.30pm to 9.30pm including interval. Entry from 7.15pm.

More information and details on how to purchase tickets can be found on Joel's website.
