Littleport will be honouring the memory of its sons who fell serving in the Far East on this 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan on August 15.
The Littleport Branch of the Royal British Legion, led by its chair, Councillor Martin Goodearl, hosts a wreath-laying ceremony at Littleport’s War Memorial on the green opposite St George’s Church on Church Lane at 6.30pm.
After this act of remembrance, at which Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club will be represented by its secretary, Peter Ginn, at 7pm at the club, the Legion is holding a free musical event with Kathryn Buck singing songs from the war years and Wayne’s Disco.
Everyone is welcome.
And on August 14 and every Thursday between 5.30pm and 7pm Kathryn leads the Littleport Community Singers at the Youth and Community Centre.

Meanwhile, very Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 9am and 12pm, The Hanger, Littleport’s Men’s Shed, next to the Vine Community Church on Globe Lane, offers a great social place for men.
As Nigel Ovens, one of the four leaders of the church said: "Our numbers have gone up and the place buzzes!"
On August 17, Adams Heritage Centre presents a talk by Dave the Toolman from Fenland Tools about vintage tools and a history of the plane at 2pm.
If you have a plane you’d like dating, take it along!
The event is a fundraiser for the newly Grade 2 listed centre, so suggested donation to include refreshments, is £5 cash.
On August 21, at the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club from 2-4pm it’s the monthly popular Thursday Afternoon Music Club with DJ Derek Timbers. Entry is £2
Derek is also club entertainments manager and is looking ahead to the Christmas Fair on December 5 in tandem with The Crown Inn!
He asks: "Will prospective stallholders for our indoor market that opens at 4pm message me for details and to book a place."

Saturday, August 17, and the Crown has singer and musician Dan Star entertaining from 8.30-11pm as landlady Sally adds, "outside - weather permitting!"
