A section of the Guided Busway has had its speed limit reduced in a bid to ensure that it runs safely.
The speed limit at Histon will now be 30mph, rather than 50mph, for one-a-half miles on the Busway.
It will come into force between Pagram Way to Park Lane crossing, which is the section from Histon to the crossroads with Oakington.
Cambridgeshire County Council have reduced the limit in an "ongoing commitment" to further strengthen the Guided Busway's safety arrangements.
The council believes that the speed limit reduction will also reduce the risks that have been identified with pedestrians using the crossing.
The move comes in advance of new safety fencing and signage on this section of the Busway.
Bus operators have been instructed on the speed limit reduction and the council have ensured that the speed limit reduction will not "adversely impact" bus journey times.
It has also said that it will monitor compliance with the dedicated Busway safety team.
In July 2025, the Highways and Transport Committee agreed to further safety improvements on the Guided Busway.
Additional safety measures such as installing a fence or barriers along the whole of the Guided Busway, as well as flood prevention work on sections of the path which run alongside the busway, are being worked on.
The safety improvements being made by the council are a result of a court case, which found that the Cambridgeshire County Council had committed "historical failures" relating to the safety of the Guided Busway.
Three people have died during incidents involving the Guided Busway, and a teenager suffered life-changing injuries too.
Cambridgeshire County Council has fully accepted its fault with the operation of the Guided Busway, as well as a £6 million fine following the court case, and has created a "new and robust" safety regime as a result.
