Charlotte Cane MP meets campaigners at Baits Bite Lock

A colourful flotilla of boats travelled up the River Cam to Baits Bite Lock to raise awareness of the threats faced by canals and navigable rivers due to the alleged lack of financial support.

Fifteen narrowboats and cruisers adorned with 'Fund Britain's Waterways' banners made the journey from Bottisham Lock and were joined en route by a steam launch, a rowing boat, and a kayak.

MP for Ely and East Cambridgeshire Charlotte Cane, was in attendance at the event.

Supporters lined the banks as the boats passed while a large group gathered at Baits Bite Lock itself to await their arrival.

The gathering also included local politicians and representatives from businesses and other organisations, all pressed for more focus on Britain's canals and rivers.

‘Fund Britain's Waterways' is a national coalition comprising more than 160 organisations, representing the interests of thousands of users and supporters of inland waterways.
