Littleport is a place of pilgrimage for worldwide Harley-Davidson motorbike afficionados, says columnist Lyn Gibb-de Swarte
The legendary partnership of William Sylvester Harley, whose parents emigrated from Littleport’s Victoria Street to Milwaukee in America where their son was born in 1880, and Arthur Davidson, is literally immortalised in metal.
By the bikes they designed and built – and by the steel 1936 replica Harley memorial on Church Green opposite St George’s Church.
In more recent times bikers who ride other makes have also found Littleport a magnet for their biking interests.
Not least because of the regularly organised bike fests. One such is happening at Littleport Leisure Centre and its grounds on Camel Road, CB6 1EW, on Saturday July 26 from midday to 11.30pm.
Littleport Bike Show is organised by Flockers Adventures and Lanterns MCC Littleport, its family friendly, entry under 14s free, adults £5 cash.
There’s a fairground, food van, stalls with all kinds of biker-type clobber and more, a raffle, and live music.
Trophies are offered for highest mileage, oldest bike, dirtiest bike, best custom, best in show and a surprise category.

Among the many sessions held there, the leisure centre has a special Kids Craft Workshop on Monday, July 28 at 10am until midday.
Choice of making a glass fusion inspired suncatcher or a personalised key ring and stretchy bracelet. £10, including homemade cake and a drink - parents welcome to stay.

Mindful of the school holidays, Littleport Town Council’s youth worker Joanne Coe has organised free games and crafts at its Youth and Community Centre in Cornfield Lane.
These are on Tuesday July 29, from 11am to 2pm, Wednesday, from 9am-midday, and Friday 31, from 11am to 2pm.

All Littleport’s eateries, takeaways, shops, hairdressers, barbers, the Ex-Servicemen’s Club and pubs are open on Saturday as usual.
The Crown Inn has singer Maiie Louise Saturday (26) 8.30pm, Tasty Bites food van – and bikers are welcome of course.
The newly done up Plough and Harrow presents Marcus Hughes at 8pm.
And on Sunday (July 27), they serve roast dinners from midday until last orders at 4pm. £14.75 with unlimited roast potatoes!
