An improved school route, new footpaths linking areas, and an update on the A10 crossing are just some of the developments coming to East Cambridgeshire.
Cambridgeshire County Council has secured millions of pounds worth of funding for six travel schemes to progress - several of which are in the area.
The existing footpaths on the Wilbraham school route are narrow, and a safety concern for people who wish to walk to and from school.
The funding will be used to buy land next to the route in order to widen the footpath and make the journey safer.
As part of the long-term route aiming to link Ely and Soham, the council are also set to use the funding to come up with the next phase of design on the route from Bridge Fen allotments to Ben's Yard, to encourage people to walk, wheel or cycle to the retail village.
The council were given more than £4 million of additional funding from the Combined Authority and Active Travel England and a further £1,125,046 through Active Travel Fund 5.
The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority has also allocated £175,000 to support active travel schemes between Witchford and Lancaster Way Business Park and Girton and Oakington.
At the Highways and Transport Committee meeting, on June 17, the council also heard that members of the public have selected their preferred option for the A10 Ely to Witchford travel crossing, which will give the public a better experience with the road.
The overbridge that scored highly among the public, however, will "significantly exceed" the council's budge, which was allocated by the Combined Authority, for the crossover.
The plans will require approval from the Combined Authority before it can be taken to the next planning phase, and if the preferred option is selected, it will need further funding before construction can be approved.
