The Hive Leisure Centre in Ely has completed its solar panel installation project.
The 228 solar panels are estimated to generate 91,050KWh of renewable electricity, which is expected to save the centre £18,000 per year.
This project helps reduce the centre’s reliance on fossil fuels and lower its carbon emissions.
Councillor Julia Huffer, East Cambridgeshire District Council’s environmental champion, said: "It is great to see this project completed and contribute to our corporate plan priority of a cleaner, greener East Cambridgeshire."
The project was made possible by the local authority's successful bid for £69,510 of funding from Sport England's Swimming Pool Support Fund.
The solar initiative aligns with values held by GLL, the site’s management company that aims to reduce its impact on the environment.
A display screen in the reception area will show real-time data on the electricity generated.
The installer, SGS Energy Ltd, will attend The Hive Leisure Centre's open weekend on July 19 and 20 to raise awareness and provide information about clean energy to residents and visitors.
