Conservative district councillor for Soham South, Lucius Vellacott, says he has been 'reflecting hard' on the local election results.
The message across the country was clear: people want to feel heard, respected, and see results.
Regardless of how the wind blows, my job remains the same.
I will fight for East Cambridgeshire, and the local issues we face.
That is what I have always done and will continue to do.
Politics is a frustrating game, but I welcome honest conversations about what we can do better.
From those conversations, we have already achieved a lot together in just two years.
We’ve got a Tiger On Demand bus to run from Wicken and Upware to Ely, Soham, and most of East Cambs.
We have duck signs on Soham High Street.
Dozens of unnoticed potholes fixed.
Together we’re saying no to low-quality, unaffordable development in our countryside and yes to affordable homes in the right places.
We live in daunting times – but every time a resident gets supported, a pothole gets fixed, a planning application gets scrutinised… that is local democracy working, and it’s what I will always do.
I look forward to working alongside Paul Bristow, our new Mayor, to get Cambridgeshire moving.
I will make sure that East Cambridgeshire is central to his plans.
In particular, I will fight to improve service at Soham station and maintain the Tiger bus to Wicken.
There are other things I am working on too.
Alongside my role, I am also a Charity Trustee for KJV Community Children’s Choir in Cambridge, where I sang for 8 years as a child.
I believe access to free or affordable quality music education is essential for social development, learning, and happiness.
