Littleport is gearing up for another lively week, says Lyn Gibb-de Swarte.
Not least because next Thursday (March 20) there is an Afternoon Music Club that’s a 50s 60s 70s night out in daylight hours, from 2pm-4pm at the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club on Ponts Hill CB61PZ.
It attracts an older, 40-100+years of age, crowd. £2 for everyone. But this weekend on Saturday night March 15 the Club has The Casuals at 9pm. And this is for anyone aged over 12. Members £4, guests £6.
Also on Saturday night, the Plough and Harrow 61 Ely Road has The Rummuns from 8pm.
And a St Patrick’s Day weekend! Offers on Guinness, Baby Guinness and Jamesons!
Littleport loves bingo and a good cause. Both proclivities are catered for on Friday night at the Littleport Leisure Centre.
Appropriately enough, two runners, Amy Jones-Bailey and Erika Wicks, are running the London Marathon in April raising funds for the Whizz Kidz charity, and as part of that effort they have organised this event at the centre.
On March 14, it’s eyes-down’ at 7pm, £10 per book and great raffle – book your table by messaging Amy on Facebook, or just pop along.
Friday, at the centre, is a good day for health-enhancing pursuits. At 9.15 am there’s a yoga session with Sophie Taffara, 50+50 Fitness from 9.30-midday where there is a choice of badminton, table tennis and the gym. And a female only gymnasium from 10.30-11.30am.
Saturday it hosts the Littleport parkrun that assembles at 8.45 for a 9am start, and the Fun Skate is at 9.15am until 10.25am, followed by a 'learn to skate' session until 10.55, and the cost is just £5.
The Crown Inn is mixing having a bevvy with friends with a darts and pool competition on Saturday – for charity of course.
This time it’s for Breast Cancer Research UK. It starts at midday and costs £5 – half into the prize pot and half to the charity. All ages and abilities are welcome.
ThePort youth group at Cornfield Lane Community Centre is open next Tuesday for school years 5/6/7 4.15-5.30pm 8+ 5.45pm onwards.
