Littleport Repair Cafe event to take place in March

Romans, who lived in Littleport until 410 AD, thought January and February dark, dreary and muddy months and that they were, in fact, the last months of their year – and March, that includes the spring solstice, was the first!

Well fortunately for us, there’s quite a lot of light-bringing activities on offer in the second month of our calendar.

However, quite a lot is happening in March – not least important is the Timebank’s Repair Café that Brigadoon-like rises every two months at the village hall.

The repair team are very skilful – and fixed my two wheelchairs that had jammed mechanisms for a few pounds donation.

It will appear again on Saturday, March 29.

Appropriately, the medal and trophy-winning Ely Roller Skating Club based at Littleport Leisure Centre, will compete in their first competition of the year in March.

And the first event for our Littleport Band is the area contest at Stevenage on Sunday, March 16.

Hopefully the Ides of March will augur a good result. Friday, March 28 -  Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club is hosting a Las Vegas style Casino Night arranged by Sara Alexander raising funds for Whizz Kids.

Local runner Amy Bailey is entered in the London Marathon for the charity.

This Saturday, February 1, The Crown has a live group called The Lonely who are playing from 9pm.

The Plough and Harrow opens from 9am to 1am on Saturdays – 9-2pm café menu, main menu 2-9pm.

Cake and hot beverages are served all day. This Saturday (February 1) they have Lucky Luke - country music from 8pm.

The Swan – a pub and boutique hotel at Sandhill on the river, is open for gourmet food Monday-Thursday 5-8.30pm, Friday and Saturday 12-3pm and 5-9pm. Sunday 12-8pm.

Then, on Tuesday, February 4, the Littleport Society, whose collection includes locally unearthed Roman coins, meets at 7.30pm in Littleport Village Hall for its AGM.

Its secretary, Littleport author John Goodge, will talk about his new book The Alehouses, Beer houses, Inns, Public Houses, Taverns, and Breweries of Littleport'.
