Last Saturday, Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club played host to a 70th birthday junket that combined fun with fundraising – a major Littleport trait.
And a friend of Ru Paul of Drag Race fame, Michelle de Swarte, my actress, writer and stand-up comic granddaughter, came to her granny Cathy’s bash starring veteran drag artiste Mark Felicity Flappes Briggs who provided drag bingo and cabaret.
The club, and Mark, waived any fees, and it raised £400 for local charities Age UK and Little Miracles.
Mark’s drag bingo efforts over 10 years have netted £25,000 for charity.
Michelle, a connoisseur of New York’s drag scene, said afterwards: “I have been a huge fan of drag, and drag queen bingo for over 20 years from downtown New York City to West Hollywood.
“I can say confidently, that Mark Felicity Flappes, is truly one of the greatest.
"A sharp-witted wicked tongue with a true star power I will never forget. I didn’t think that night, travelling to Littleport to see my family on the darkest foggiest of roads, that at the end of that journey, would be one of the brightest lights on the drag scene!”

Entertainment this Saturday night (January 18) at The Crown offers Purple Star Karaoke 8.30-11.30pm.
Also on the same night, the Plough and Harrow present a singing duo performing favourites old and new from 8pm.
Last Saturday’s popular Littleport parkrun had to be cancelled because the course was rendered dangerous by the freezing temperatures, so Saturday this week promises to have a humdinger of an attendance.
It assembles at 8.45am outside the Littleport Leisure Centre for a 5k fun run, jog walk that starts at 9am.
There are various activities every day in this historic town, and Tuesday, January 21 you can visit the Littleport Society’s archives and drawers which are full of interesting memorabilia, and this is free. It is upstairs of the council offices at The Barn in the free car park off Main Street, from 1pm-4pm.
