An Ely woman who ran three marathons in three days has raised more than £1,094 for Kingfishers Bridge Nature Reserve.

Kelly’s Jennings ran locally around Newmarket for the first two days, before completing her third and final marathon outside the green opposite Ely Cathedral on April 1.

Situated 15 miles north of Cambridgeshire and bordered by the River Cam, the reserve saw the arrival of the Bittern, a highly reclusive bird which first bred in 2007.

She said: “This is a challenge I decided to take on as I want to raise money to help our local environment and take the time to give back to others.

“Completing this challenge and giving my time to raise money for such an amazing cause will really help a trust that is playing such a pivotal role in supporting and protecting such a wide array of species from the area and giving nature a home.

“I've really been overwhelmed by the support I have had throughout the weekend. When I set this challenge last year, I did think it was a tad insane to do three marathons in three days.

She added: “Having incredible, inspiring people around me throughout has really motivated me. Plus, I have always loved the sense of community with running and how it really brings people together to help others.

“Managing to complete all the marathons in under 4 hours, with the quickest time achieved on Day 2 in 3 hours 38 minutes was very surreal.

“Also, the 3 marathons were so significant, as each marathon was dedicated to someone really close to me who had sadly passed away in the month of March.”

Transforming more than 250 acres of land to provide safe haven for endangered species since 1995, the nature reserve welcomes visitors all-year round.
