Bright sunshine and strong winds greeted the 109 competitors taking part in the Ely Tri Club 115 Squadron Duathlon on March 24.

There were some sterling performances in the face of the challenging weather.

The course features two 5km runs across the old WW2 airfield at Witchford and the Lancaster Way Business Park either side of a 25km cycle leg that heads north on the A10 and A142 before swinging by the villages of Pymoor, Little Downham, Coveney, Wardy Hill and Witcham.

First male Josh Holman finished almost nine minutes ahead of second placed Ben Keeley in an impressive time of 1:16:46, while the first female to cross the line was Lara Franklin in 1:31:07.

The winner of the relay race, consisting of fifteen three person teams, was Bibby Donna Walla with a combined time of 1:34:09.

The Apex Coffee House supplied cold and hungry athletes with hot drinks and a barbecue to help revive tired legs.

Full results and competitor photos are on the Ely Tri Club website.

The club also thanked race sponsors Grovemere, dB Broadcast, AC Timber, Thorlabs, Life Fitness and Cambridge Commodities.
