A world-renowned virtuoso trumpeter will be joining Littleport Band for a memorable concert at Ely Cathedral this summer.  

Mike Lovatt has played principal trumpet with internationally renowned orchestras and is currently Professor of Trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music.  

His recent artist recordings and performances include film hits such as Harry Potter, James Bond and most of the Marvel movies.  

Mr Lovatt has also been involved with recordings for Robbie Williams, Eric Clapton and Shirley Bassey.

(Image: Mike Lovatt)The concert with Littleport Band will feature a wide variety of music including well-known jazz, big band, classical and traditional brass band pieces.  

It will take place on June 15, 2024 from 7:30pm.  

Admission is £10 with under 10s free.

They travelled to Stevenage for the London and Southern Counties Region round where the bass section were awarded “Best Basses”.  

Littleport Band came 6th overall in the regional round of the competition.

He grew up in Littleport and played cornet in the band before studying trumpet at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and music at Cambridge University. 

Ian’s many achievements include being the youngest MD to conduct at the National Championship Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in 1983 when leading Hanwell Band. 

He went on to be a music teacher at secondary level and is now more involved in examining, arranging, and composing.
