What is some of the worst parking in Cambridgeshire?

For residents taking to Fix My Street, a website that allows people to report issues to their local authority, the region has its fair share of terrible parking.

Inconsiderate parking on your street can be frustrating, particularly if you’re blocked in or unable to access your home.

But while bad parking is an inconvenience, illegal parking can have greater consequences. It could lead to restricted access for people in wheelchairs, or even put other drivers in danger.

From abandoned vehicles to potholes, residents across the region have logged thousands of inconveniences involving vehicles since the website’s launch.

Using Fix My Street, we’ve noted the top five examples of bad parking in Cambridgeshire.

Here’s what we found:

School Lane, Wilburton, Ely

This severely damaged vehicle was left abandoned in the mouth of an Ely junction following what can only be presumed as a road traffic collision.

The user who complained, said: “It looks like the car has had an accident but been abandoned. It is blocking access for emergency vehicles.”

Vinery Road, Cambridge

This vehicle was caught parked on Vinery Road, just off Coldham’s Lane. Parked on zigzag lines, the car will visible impact people trying to see over the nearby pedestrian crossing, both drivers and pedestrians.

The user who complained said: “Car parked illegally on wigwags.”

Tower Road, Ely

This Vauxhall Corsa caused a stink for one road user who uploaded an image of the vehicle for parking to far away from the kerb, restricting access to larger vehicles.

The user who complained said: “Tower Road is a narrow road which is the access to Tower Court. The vehicle is parked in the road away from the kerb and it is difficult for vehicles to pass without driving up an overgrown verge.

“Delivery vehicles cannot access tower court and it would be difficult for emergency vehicles to do the same because of this inconsiderate parking. This parking of typical of what we experience when there are big events town such as the Christmas fair.

St Andrew’s Street, Cambridge

At the back end of last year, this user caught a delivery van mount the kerb before parking on double yellow lines in Cambridge city centre, causing an obstruction to vehicles and pedestrians.

The user who complained said: “The van mounted the pavement then parked on double yellow lines. A danger to pedestrians on crowded pavement.”

Buttercream Avenue, Peterborough

This individual on Fix My Street observed a van parked dangerously on the mouth of a junction, pavement, and a double yellow line. While causing an obstruction to other drives and pedestrians, the vehicle is also reportedly leaking diesel.

The user who complained said: “This vehicle has been parked here for 2 to 3 days. The fuel cap is open, and diesel is spilling onto road and pathway. Its blocking a junction, dropped kerb. You’re unable to pass by on foot must and have to walk on someone’s private garden or the road due to how close it has parked to the road sign. It's very dangerous.”
