Bev Cruxon-Lewis, charity operations and theatre co-ordinator at Viva Arts and Community Group Ltd, talks about the importance of Independent Venue Week

This week, Viva celebrates Independent Venue Week, and is proud to be amongst the many independent venues continuing to open up new opportunities for artists, audiences and backstage workers in a local community.

Nearing their second anniversary, Viva has hosted many music and cabaret nights, screened popular and classic movies, and brought shows from the National Theatre Live to the Big Screen, in addition to their ever popular Viva productions which offer opportunities for both youth and adult members.

Viva is proud to be part of this growing network of independent venues which continue to innovate and make the best use of the space for our local community, where people come together to enjoy live entertainment and use us as a cultural hub for learning, creativity, arts and culture, connecting members of the community from all walks of life.

Independent Venue Week (IVW) is the UK’s annual seven-day celebration of independent music and arts venues and the people that own, run and work in them and runs until February 4.

During quieter daytime periods, Viva is pleased to offer a programme of 'Silver Screenings' showing a selection of popular and classic movies. Tickets are only £5 and include tea and biscuits and the opportunity to socialise amongst friends.

These screenings are designed to be welcoming to all and adapted to support those living with dementia. You’ll be welcomed by trained staff, with carefully selected films, adapted lighting and sound and a very important space for social interaction.

On February 13, Viva will be screening A Haunting in Venice at 2pm.

These screenings are designed to be welcoming to all and adapted to support those living with dementia. You can easily book these screenings through our friendly box office on 01353 722228.

There’s so much on offer at Viva this season: from musicals, plays, NT Live, afternoon cinema screenings, youth workshops and Saturday theatre school.
